You better celebrate now West River. Trackman, you know it was a stellar weekend for the West. Where is this WestRiver#1 guy? Is he at the county fair somewhere?
11AA
Yankton 9 RCC 0Watertown 46 Spearfish 13
Brookings 14 RCS 42
Brandon Valley 14 Sturgis 27
week zero (2-2) E83 – W82
11A/B
week zero (0-0) E0 – W0
9AA/A/B
Kimball 44 Lower Brule 6
week zero (1-0) E44 – W6
Overall (3-2) E127 – W88
After week “zero” East comes out on top of the West again!
Kimball blows past Lower Brule 44-6, Watertown thumps Spearfish 46-13, and Yankton shuts-out Rapid City Central, the largest school in the State, 9-0.
Overall, another solid weekend for East River. Is this an indication of what is to come for the rest of the season?
Does anybody know if Brookings is still missing a bunch of players? Did Brandon Valley graduate every starter from last year? They are going to be really down for a couple years.

SB1 has threatened to kick me off this site at least 3 times? He/she emailed me wanting me to stick to the facts this season and not be so critical of West River sports/teams. Hah, Hah, Hah! How is that possible?
2010 Football Season Facts
Fact 1; There will be NO West River teams winning a State Championship! Absolutely NO CHANCE!
Fact 2; There will be at most one team from West River out of the twelve possible teams making the trip to the dome. (Winner Warriors)
![]()
Fact 3; ‘AA’ Football West River is atrocious! Sturgis did have a couple surprising wins last year but the sun will shine on a…………..once in awhile.
Fact 4; When an East River team travels West River, the hometown fans will have the following message:

ER#1 Pre-season Predictions
11AA-SF Washington
11A-West Central
11B-Aberdeen Roncalli
9AA-Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan
9A-Avon
9B-Dell Rapids St. Mary’s
I just wanted to take this opportunity to say “thanks” to the West River GDC schools for losing to the Sioux Falls schools at a pace of nearly 84 percent. Good work! Finally the GDC is a thing of the past! Read this. Why the Sioux Falls schools signed on to play in the GDC is beyond me? Varsity playing Junior Varsity.
Instead of Stevens and Central trying to get into the ESD, they should look at joining the Black Hills Conference like Spearfish has done. Does anyone know the total number of times West River football, girls and boys basketball teams have come into Sioux Falls and won? Lincoln Parent are you out there? I’m guessing less than 20 percent of the time? Maybe SB3 could find out for us. That is one stat I didn’t keep.
Cheers to West River for being rotten! What a waste of time traveling clear across the state. SF schools would have been better off staying home and scrimmaging their own JV squads.
A number of years ago Volleyball parents filed suit against the SDHAA and won. These parents felt by having the Volleyball season early their daughters were “losing out” on scholarship opportunities. http://www.justice.gov/crt/edo/documents/sdhsaamot2.pdf
Now the Class ‘A’ and ‘B’ basketball parents may have a case? Their kids are losing scholarship opportunities to class ‘AA’ players and players from states who already have the shot clock. The reasoning is simple, their kids are not as prepared for the college game as those who have been playing in games where the shot clock is in use.
It’s that time of year to start talking about what South Dakota High School Coaching changes we are going to see. ER#1 needs your help!

“Things happen for a reason”. Larson should stay closer to home and play for South Dakota State. Why?
1. He could be the player responsible for the Jackrabbits first ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
2. He could step in and play right away, in fact, Cody would be a force immediately!
3. He could earn the respect back from all of the “nay sayers” who have issues with his off the court troubles. These people will forgive him!
4. He could start a trend of keeping the top players in South Dakota so we can be more competitive on the National level like the Lady Jackrabbits.
5. He could have a great college career right here in South Dakota that would make this whole state proud, except for the Coyote fans.
*Please note USD is not “playoff eligible”, therefore this wouldn’t be an option for Larson.

I really think we need more women officiating high school basketball games. This may have helped the STM-Red Cloud situation. Here is an article I found and thought you may enjoy reading. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1696&dat=19860324&id=pn41AAAAIBAJ&sjid=D5gEAAAAIBAJ&pg=5911,5779198
I will have more on the STM-Red Cloud Region game soon. ER#1
The final ER#1 Accurate Poll is complete. Sorry it took so long!
Here is the SD Top 25 by MaxPreps: http://www.maxpreps.com/rankings/basketball/1/state/south-dakota.htm
1. SF O’Gorman 19-5, Had a scare early in the Tournament but did what Champions do, win close games. Winners of 16 straight to finish the season. If the Sportswriters had a final poll the Knights might make their top 3? The ER#1 Accurate Poll has had them on top for a long time! This team will be #1 from the start and finish 25-0! Mark it down kids!
2. Madison 25-1, “Sullivan, White, and Wiebe come up big for Madison as they cut down the nets in front of a raucous crowd.” Well, just as I predicted. This team was loaded at every position. Would give the OG Knights a run but would come up short. Still an easy pick for #2 in South Dakota!
3. Aberdeen Central 20-6, “Looks like Aberdeen Central vs. OG in the finals.” Another ER#1 prediction come true. I’m 3 for 3 so far. Hannigan is an amazing talent, just didn’t have enough to go with him. Great run by the Eagles who didn’t get much pre-season respect. Congrats to the Eagles and Brent Norberg.
T4. St. Thomas Moore 23-3
Nothing like adding ANOTHER 2nd place trophy to go with the five 2nd place football trophy’s already in the display case. “We can’t let them take the Championship trophy home with them.” Again, just as I predicted. As much as I hate to put all these private schools in the top 5, they are good. Do they recruit? Why are they so good? The O’Gorman of the West had Madison down by 7 at half and held a slim lead going into the 4th quarter before running out of gas. Madison kids were tougher on the boards (Did I post the same thing after football? Toughness….). St. Thomas had a good defense but didn’t utilize their size and it seemed like they allowed some players to jack 3’s outside of the offense? Nonetheless, this team was as good as the West could produce. Who will they recruit for next year? Buzzard fans want to know.
T4. Sioux Falls Christian 21-2, I couldn’t put this team ahead of St. Thomas even though they beat them at the Parkston Classic. Early SFC was better than late. They had a great run and lost in the Region Championship to my #2 Madison Bulldogs.
6. Huron 20-5, Could have put these guy’s higher but didn’t feel comfortable doing that for some reason? Not sure why? Finished well in the 3rd place game rolling over an overrated RC Central team.
7. White River 24-2
No technicals in the State Tournament. What an impressive run by Coach Marshall and his White River Tigers! I know there will be a number of ‘AA’ fans complaining about too many ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams ahead of ‘AA’ teams, but don’t think for a second these smaller schools couldn’t beat the bigger schools.
8. Aberdeen Roncalli 23-3, Very nice season by the Green Cavs taking 3rd at State. Look out for this team again next year! With some post development this group has big-time potential? Who can challenge them from Region 1?
9. Corsica-Stickney 21-1, This team had a great run, unfortunately lost to another good team. As mentioned in the last poll, I felt this squad was one of the best in class B. Definitely good enough to be in the top 10.
10. Roosevelt 14-10, Size, talent, depth and disappointment. This team should have finished #1.
11. Hitchcock-Tulare, An outstanding season and finish. Two State Championship games for this school. A lot to replace for next year. Kenny Huether and company is to be commended for a great run.
12. Rapid City Central 17-7
This team went down in a ball of flames as I predicted. The largest school in South Dakota finally becomes one of 17 to make the 8 horse field after sitting out since 2005. I know you are all going to say they won 17 games, finished 4th place in the tournament, blah, blah, blah….. Well who did they beat to get to the tournament? Stevens (5-18) and Sturgis (11-7). Now, how well did the West River ‘darlings’ fair in the ‘AA’ Tournament? Beat #8 Mitchell (12-14) and finished 1-2 for 4th place. The overall record of the teams RCC beat this season was 143-177. Luckily the Cobblers had a high seed or they may have finished 7th place ahead of Mitchell? Home court advantage for the State Tournament and filled their sneakers with urine.
13. McCook Central-Montrose 20-6, Coach Marquardt is very good and will have these young Cougars back next year. Had a good game against Madison but couldn’t finish. “Anyway, the wins picked up in this tournament will benefit next year’s team as they will be back for a title run in 2011.”
14. Winner Chicken Dinner 22-4
As I predicted, “I say sunshine bracket is in the cards for the Warriors.” Look out next year! No more sunshine bracket as these Warriors will be for real! Will Horsey Boy get more help? Let’s assume. Will Sod reveal the answer soon or wait and keep us on edge until Pheasant season ends?
15. Viborg 22-4, This team will be solid in the ‘A’ ranks next year. Will have good inside/out play. Can Coach Schoenefeld build on a 3rd place finish at the B’s.
16. Lincoln 10-14, Much better than their record! Young team that came on at the end when it counted. Came away with some big wins to get into the tournament. Another team to look out for next year.
17. Elk Point Jefferson 19-7, Young coach gets them to the tourney. Tough first round draw and didn’t play well on day 2 against the Green Cavs. One of the best Frosh in the State! Can they return and finish better than 7th place next year? Yes.
18. Langford 20-3, Losing their final game to a good Hitchcock-Tulare, this team could be ranked higher? Two years in a row sitting at home during the tournament when they were good enough to be playing in Aberdeen.
19. Rosholt 21-1, Another good team that got knocked out of a tough district/region. Only 2 seniors on the roster. Should be good again next year?
20. SF Washington 12-11, Disappointing finish but did have some big wins with young and inexperienced players. Just didn’t seem to recover from the beat down by O’Gorman of the West. A lot of talent on this roster coming back. Expect to see them in the tournament next year. Don’t expect to see St. Thomas Moore on thier schedule anytime soon.
HM: Red Cloud 17-5
, Brandon Valley 10-16, Mitchell Christian 21-2, Mitchell 12-14, Watertown 14-8, Sully Buttes 21-5
