It’s Not Just Football; West River is Bad In Volleyball Too.

Friday, November 19th, 2010

West River sends one team, Harding County, to the Dome and we saw what happened to the undefeated “golden boy” team from out yonder. All six football championships go to East River as I predicted back in late August. One out of 12 possible teams make it to the dome.

Yesterday, West River brought that same competitive spirit to the volleyball scene. Rapid City Stevens falls to Yankton, The New York Yankees (St. Thomas) of the mighty Black Hills Conference got thumped by Sisseton, and Edgemont (hell no we don’t glow) takes a beating from Parker. West River starts the Volleyball Tournament out 0-3.

Hopefully West River will be good in the individual sports this winter like Wrastling, Snow Boarding, Pool, Darts, etc….

Ranchers Hunt for Beaver Unsuccessful; Big Second Half Propels Hanson to Win 34-16

Friday, November 12th, 2010

It was the Dome’s only East vs. West match-up on the State Championship Playoff card, Harding County Ranchers vs. Hanson Beavers. In all, twelve teams travel to Vermillion in hopes of winning a State Championship trophy. Hanson and two other East River teams were already crowned Champions.

The one lone team from West River, Harding County, rode into the Dakota Dome with aspirations of taking home the prize. These rough and tough Ranchers might have a bit of an odor coming from their boots, but these cowhands can play football. The Ranchers amassed an amazing 11-0 record while scoring a combined 587 pts or 53.4 pts per game and giving up just 40 pts or 3.6 pts per game coming into to yesterdays Championship game. Amazing numbers? Or did the Ranchers play a soft schedule?

The Harding County football field can be turned over to the cows for winter now that the football season is over.

Football is very important in the small Buffalo Community. Winning is a expected and tradition.

The Ranchers have an overall record of 46-9 over the last five years. Very impressive!

Taz Olson and Austin Brown are two of the many ‘go to’ players on the Rancher roster but the East River Hansen was just too much in the second half as the Beavers scored 26 unanswered points in the second half.

The Hanson Beavers brought their own winning tradition into this game and they weren’t intimidated by the recent success of the Harding County Ranchers. Hanson has a proven track record of success and winning. Last night was the third straight title for this program.

Yesterday’s game report:

With the 2010 season in the books, will the Beaver’s be done or will they continue the winning tradition?

Congratulations to both teams for a great year! ER#1

Winner and Harding County Advance to the ‘Ship’.

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

Against all odds? How dare ER#1 pick two teams from West River? There must be good reason, very good.

The Harding County Ranchers come into this game with a huge home field advantage. Sources tell me the Rancher field is very similar to a “cow pasture” giving these already tough Harding County kids a distinct home field advantage. You would think they would be a ‘grind it out’ on the ground, smash mouth team but from what I have been able to come up with, the Ranchers also have a spread attack. What is most impressive with these Ranchers is their defense, only giving up a total of 3 touchdowns or 20pts the entire season. I’m not sure Sully Buttes will be able to score?

This Harding County mom will be ready to cheer the Ranchers on to victory?

Sully Buttes Chargers
Sully Buttes has a balanced attack with a very solid running back tandem in Kleinsasser and Lamb. Is Kleinsasser related to the fullback playing for the Vikings? Coming up with a game plan to stop those two running backs will be a daunting task because the Chargers have a seasoned Quarterback that will make opposing defenses pay for keying on these two star backs. Hayden Hadcock has a very accurate arm but equally dangerous on the ground. Will the strength of the Sully Buttes regular season schedule be the difference?

ER#1 Accurate Prediction; Harding County 28 Sully Buttes 26
Harding County being so close to Montana and North Dakota allows them to avoid the ‘usual’ West River stigma of ‘stinking’ the place up or just plain ‘choking’. I don’t think the Ranchers will puke all over themselves like many of the Black Hills Area teams do at this time of year. I just feel their location is such that they are not so ‘backwards’ or ‘hillbilly’ like?

The Winner Warriors come into this game with one loss. Mobridge upset Winner in the 3rd game of the regular season by score of 26-10. Winner will rely on a solid ground game with a surprise pass over the top after they lull the Tiger defense to sleep. Below is a diagram of a ‘surprise’ play Winner will use when the Tiger defense cheats up on the run game. It’s called ‘84 right drag, waggle 31, option 4, on triple’. This is a play the Warriors have not used yet this year.

Will the defending State Champions turn the tables on Mobridge and return to the Dome for a shot at Back-to-Back titles?

Mobridge-Pollock junior Bailley Friesz has been outstanding running the ball all season long. Helping take some of the load off Friesz is another sturdy running back, Jesse Dienert. Combined these two provide a solid one-two punch. Look for Mobridge to battle in this one.

ER#1 Accurate Prediction; Winner 21 Mobridge Pollock 20
I really think Winner will have the upper hand in this game since they are geographically located  further East on the map than Mobridge. Also, Winner plays like an East River team. They beat the best the west could offer in Thomas More and Belle Fourche. This Warrior team won’t lay an egg like the usual West River teams do at this time of year.

Patiots End Raider Run………..

Monday, November 1st, 2010

This Blog is Sponsored byarnolds

The Stevens Raiders will be in for a tough playoff game as the Lincoln Patriots 6-4, roll into the Black Hills with a businesslike mindset. The Raiders are carrying a nice 7-3 record but most of those wins have come from the bottom tier of ‘AA’, three West River teams. I must give the Raiders credit for winning 7 games with a number of key injuries throughout the year.

From SB1, “In the interim the Raiders have had a number of injuries including Alex Schnell, Hayden Hast and Alex Litzen. All might be back for the game on Monday, but it remains to be seen at what capacity each can perform.”

Injuries or no injuries the Raiders will have their hands full trying to contain a much more mature Alex Schultz. He has led this Lincoln offense to some impressive drives late this season and has this team playing well right now. Expect coach Aaron ‘Beaves’ Beavers to exploit the Raider secondary with the use of 6’2, 200 lb wide out Trey ‘Nauseous’ Naasz. Naasz had two touchdowns in the last meeting to knock off the upset minded Raiders in a close game, 33-32 in Rapid City on October 9th. I can’t go without mentioning the all-purpose, do everything running back, Jon ‘Boy’ Halverson. He is a beast and will move the sticks for the Patriot offense.

With about 2 minutes remaining in the game you will hear a small number of Patriot fans, because it’s a school night, yelling “this ones over, this ones over, this ones over…….”

ER#1 Accurate Prediction: SF Lincoln 28 RC Stevens 18

Bye Bye Thommy More…..Season is Over!

Monday, November 1st, 2010

The West Central Trojans 6-3, travel West to the friendly confines of the beautiful Black Hills. One would think the Trojan faithful would rather not travel that far for a ‘piss pounding’ but this beats traveling to Dells or Harrisburg. This game will draw a lot of statewide interest because of the East vs. West match-up. The Trojans will run the ball early and often forcing Thomas More to move 8 or 9 guys to the line of scrimmage. The last time these two teams met it was ugly. West Central drilled the Cavaliers in the Dome a couple years ago. It wasn’t pretty!

West Central crushed it’s first round playoff opponent 64-14. It wasn’t supposed to be such a lopsided game as the Trojans went to #2 Sisseton and dismantled the Redman on their home field. The game was shut down with about 10 minutes left.

St. Thomas will have their hands full trying to stop Andrew Ideker. He had 5 TD’s and 335 yards rushing last week.

It’s been rumored inside the Hartford city limits that Thomas More was supposed to play West Central the past two seasons, but a phone call from out West to Pierre changed that scenario to West Central playing Belle Fourche and Thomas More playing Vermillion? Was Thomas More ducking the Trojans?

Kent Mueller after hearing word his Trojan squad will be playing the Cavaliers? When asked about his team playing St. Thomas More, Coach Mueller said, “We will be prepared and ready to go.”

St. Thomas More comes into this game with an impressive 7-2 record and should be very competitive. Coach Sullivan knows how to win playoff games. The Cavaliers have been in the Dome 5 times and know what it takes to get there.

According to SB1, “STM has the offensive firepower to hang with the Trojans.”

Will this be a different St. Thomas team that will come out and hit the Trojans in the mouth or will Mueller and company have another run away?

ER#1 Accurate Prediction: West Central 44 St. Thomas 7

Don’t Kill the Messenger, Don’t Kill the Messenger………..This Site Dies Without ER#1

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

The Buzzards come out with their first poll on this site asking if EastRiver#1 should be allowed to continue posting? How did you vote? And does your vote really count?

“The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 29% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president.” by Rasmussen Reports

According to the above poll, I should get another two years like the Great One?

Many of you West River folks won’t answer my question, how did you vote?  Honestly, do you really want to lose out on my East vs West FACTS? Post a comment below and let me know, unless you are like most Americans who voted for Barack Hussein Obama but now won’t admit it. Are you a coward?
