White River’s Eldon Marshall was tossed from the District 13B Championship game on Friday.
Now the speculation is whether or not he will be able to coach the Region Championship game in Rapid City on Tuesday.
If a player is ejected, he can’t play. From the information I have gathered, most believe it is the same for a coach.
If you know the rule for sure, please post what you know.

The rule is the same, he shouldn’t be able to coach the region game!

Thanks for the info.
Might make for an interesting Region game. It will actually give Jared Bouman a chance to showcase his coaching talents instead of following in Eldon’s shadow.

He will not be allowed to coach the region game. I commend the referees who, unlike so many this year, actually had the guts to set Eldon straight.

Coach Marshall has continued a great program and made it his own, but I agree with hoops in that a referee doesn’t want to be put into that position but made the tough call. The Winner radio announcer mentioned a couple times right after the first T that he needed to be careful to not get the second one right away. As a member of the SDHSAA board, what example is being set for his team who T’d their way out of a state title last year. It’s time to reel it in and just play ball.

Not really sure what happened in the game but heard from some pretty good sources that he didn’t really say much to them. I am just saying what I heard. Not really sure if they are accurate or not. I also heard that it was the same official that T’d him up at Sully Buttes. Sometimes, some officials remember things from the past and will never let them go. Some officials get a bad taste in their mouth about somebody and never get rid of it. Sometimes these things happen and officials don’t ever forget about them and look for anything to T them up or throw a flag on them in football. Seems like as a coach, in any sport, if you get under the skin of an official, the relationship is never the same after that. You could do next to nothing and get tossed. I know this is not the case with all officials, but it does seem like it happens with some.

Well, from my courtside seat, it looked like he completely deserved the first Technical he got. He had already been warned from the referee about being on the court and then he was disputing a call pretty much in the referee’s face. The second one was a little more suspect. He was once again questioning a call and maybe if it had been directed toward a different referee than the first one, he wouldn’t have gotten tossed.
I will agree with Iceman that sometime officials will remember other dealings with coaches, but referees take quite a bit of abuse from coaches at times and they shouldn’t have to. The problem will be that this coach and this referee will undoubtedly see each other again in the future and they will have to figure out a way to manage themselves in a professional manner.
I think Coach Marshall was remembering things from the night before when calls weren’t going his team’s way and was trying to not let that happen again. He took it out on the referee and got penalized for it.
One of the funnier things in all of the excitement was when Marshall’s wife came flying out of the crowd onto the playing floor after he got ejected. What did she think she was going to accomplish? She should have been tossed for that herself.

Coach Marshall has behaved this way ALL season. Is it the “post-Louie blues” or what? I continue to contend that anything he has accomplished in the past is being covered by his continued courtside belittling of every referee that doesn’t see the game the same way he does. He gets up in their faces and does this STUPID little clap and tries to intimidate them. It is so unprofessional and I’m tired of hearing it’s because he is “so intense” and he just “does so much for some of those boys” etc….lots of coaches are intense and some of them will actually get to coach their region games this week.
I knew Marc would be right out there….I’m surprised the mother in law wasn’t also. Thanks for confirming my suspicions, GDHole. We all have our opinions and we either support this sideshow or laugh at what a mess Eldon has created. Whatever our choice, I feel bad for some of the kids on this Tiger team. How is he supposed to control his players when he can’t control himself?
I’m sure officials do remember certain dealings with certain coaches. That’s what makes Eldon’s behavior even more idiotic. You’re up 11 and you can’t control yourself long enough to get through the game and more on past this official that “supposedly” has it out for you? Where does Eldon’s behavior towards the guy come into play? Stay in the coaching box and clap to the school song. He is no victim here. The kids are.
One can only wonder if, like schools boards, there is some way to “recall” Eldon’s election to the SDHSAA. He has no business on a board that reminds schools consistently to “abide by offical decisions” when he can’t do it himself. It is a shame he let this situation escalate to this point as I think he is a good coach.

Eldon sticks up for his players and he should be booted from board service? Some of you guys need to break out the VHS tapes and remind yourself how placid, pedestrian and boring coaches have become. Working the officials used to be, and still should be, part of the game. That’s why it’s built into the rules.
I was not at the game but heard the second technical was given from thirty feet away while Eldon was seated. Most people (from White River, anyway) agree the first technical was earned but the second was not. If that’s the case, it’s too bad that an official inserted himself so deeply into the game as to possibly affect the playoff system.

I think the game wasn’t called fair during the first half. After, the ref (not gonna say names) booted Eldon he then started calling a well played game. Eldon had undercontrol. The refs just wanted some excitement. Jelousy seems to play a big role whoever is against the Tigers. They are a good team and they’ve proven that for 5 years!! Go Tigers!!!!

WOW you guys are incredible! First of all I would like to say I know very little about Eldon Marshall. I do however think that whenever you have a sucessfull program like White River, Red Cloud, and STM have you are going to be scrutinized by everybody including their dogs….As I said I know very little about Eldon, but what I do know he is a great Coach. My son had an opportunity to attend a basketball camp where Eldon was one of the staff members. Eldon treated my son very well!!!! I praise him for that! I also would like to add my son does not attend school in White River, he is a Cavalier! You can call it what you like post “LOUIE” blues or whatever, but I watched White River play, they are a great team, and Eldon is a great Coach! GO TIGERS! GO WARRIORS! GO CAVALIERS! GOOD LUCK AT STATE!
