Great White Hype

Monday, November 29th, 2010

Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis went for 131 on the ground yesterday bringing his season total to 905 yards rushing.  With 5 games still left in the year Hillis could do something that hasnt been done in a long long long time in the NFL…..a white running back rushing for 1000 yards in a season.  So that brings me to the trivia question of the decade.  Without using ur high powered google machines can any one you out there name the last WHITE running back to rush for 1000 yards in a season in the NFL?

30 for 30

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

It seems lately ESPN has been worried more about the love life of Tiger Woods or the ankle of Brett Favre.  Constantly showing more of the dark sides of sports than the light, but with their 30 for 30 series they have struck gold.  From the first 30 for 30 film they aired till tonights on the 1982 LLWS Champion Kirkland, Washington I have cleared my night to watch.  Each film seems to draw at different heart strings and mixes up memories and emotions that were all but forgotten.  I can sit here confidently and say that more than one has had me crying my eyes out without knowing why.  Watch the “Guru of Go” about Paul Westhead and Hank Gathers and you will realize what I am talking about.  Whether it was the story of Len Bias, Reggie Miller or OJ Simpson each film has gone above and beyond my expectations.  For those of you that havent had a chance to catch any of the series you dont know what you are missing.  To relive classic sports moments of the last 30 years in the eyes and voices of those involved has been incredible.  So please ESPN dont stop at 30 keep making these films, because great stories of yesteryear will always trump dark stories of today.

If you have watched tell me what films stood out the most to you…..

Let’s Get Ready to Fumble….

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

It’s gonna be another quiet year here in Hobo country.  The football team will struggle to score 20 points all year, 16 total last year, so to see a competitive game you have to travel.  And if there is any thought of the Mighty Trojans back on the bball court well thats a year or two away yet.  With the sports scene slow at the junction of 37 and 44 it looks like the green hornet, my old beat up expedition, will get a few more miles on it.  Id gladly trade 150,000 miles for a 4-4 year, but thats like asking ER1 to tone it down a little and we all know how well that has worked already.  My virgin voyage for live blogging football will happen Sept. 3rd in a matchup between 9 man powers Hanson and Avon.  This game should go a long way in telling who will be the front runner for the 9A title.  Most of my coverage will come from 9man FB in the area as I work out a few kinks and get ready for a full schedule of basketball in the winter.

I would like to send out a special shout out to fellow Sunshine League foe Dimock/Emery Raptors who won the 2010 State Class B Amateur Baseball Championship.
